Hugo Horiot: “I am the emperor / A child with autism is narrated” by Stixis Publications

Can a man with Asperger syndrome (who wanted to be locked up in a psychiatric hospital at the age of three) who spoke at the age of six eliminate the stigma of autism and integrate into society as a successful writer, actor, and director?

The answer is given by the wonderful case of the French author Hugo Horiot, with his book “The emperor is me / A child with autism is narrated” published by Stixis Publications. He notes: “It is a story about diversity, about exclusion. A book in which many people will recognize themselves. “Autism does not appear, it is not named, but it is present.”

This is a true story, where the author, as a child with Asperger syndrome, travels us to his childhood, from the age of four to eighteen. In this journey, he shares with us what an autistic child experiences, being different, his anxieties, obsessions, fears, his refusal to speak, his desire to become someone else. He reveals to us how he saw our irrational world and his relentless struggle against himself and others.

A fascinating narrative, tender but also hard, with a unique literary ability, which proves that an autistic child can earn a living, integrate equally into society, and even be distinguished.

It is noteworthy that in Greece, the incidence of autism was estimated at one in forty-two boys and one in one hundred and eighty-nine girls. In America, one in fifty-four children has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (2016 data) with a 600% increase over the last two decades.

People  wrote about the book:

“A life lesson … Hugo Horiot made sure that the terms autism and autism do not exist in his narrative so that anyone who has felt like his martyrdom does not comply with social norms, whoever is endowed with an extreme sensitivity that makes him vulnerable or rebellious about the course of the world, he will hear the echo of his despair in this book, which is not so much a testimony as to the story of a ruthless and dynamic struggle. ”
Astrid de Larminat, LE FIGARO

“The self-portrait of an angry child, waging a ruthless war against himself and others.”
Marie Auffret-Pericone, LE SOIR

“A wonderful text that talks about diversity.”
Jacqueline Demornex, SERVICE LITTERAIRE
